This option is available to a student who wishes to attend a school other than the one in his or her attendance area. Transfers are made through application only and are determined by lottery based on space availability. Transportation to the new school is the responsibility of the parent or guardian. Procedures: Special Transfer Option application forms are available at all public schools, in the School Choice Office and on this website. Forms must be completed and submitted by the annual deadline. Parents will be notified by postcard, the status of the transfer request in late June. List of schools that have openings for Special Transfer Option students Key Dates for the 2008 – 2009 school year: April: • Applications available (April 1). • List of schools that have space for Special Transfer Option students available. May: Application deadline (May 31). June: • Lottery conducted for schools not designated to receive NCLB or    Opportunity Scholarship transfers. • Students notified by postcard. July-Aug: Waiting list students notified and placed. August 18: First day of school.
