Senate Bill 1604 allows dependent children of active duty military personnel who otherwise meet the eligibility criteria for special academic programs offered through the public schools shall be given first preference for admission to such programs even if the program is being offered through a public school other than the school to which the student would generally be assigned and the school at which the program is being offered has reached its mazimum enrollment.
As a result, military dependent students who have a parent on active duty are given preference for admission to special academic programs including charter schools, magnet schools, Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE), honors, and dual enrollment. Students who meet the eligibility requirements are placed in the program, not on a waiting list.
Students seeking a transfer as a military dependent student must complete the Military Transfer Option Student Transfer Application and provide the required documentation.
